Deep Hawaiian Traditions behind Hawaii Weddings

The dream wedding of most brides to be is to 00004000 have the wedding on a beach in some tropical climate surrounded by the overwhelming beauties of nature. Hawaii weddings come with different wedding locations with various packages. Anyone who likes to have a wedding on a scenic outdoors locations like on beach, in some tropical gardens, then Hawaii is the best place to own your dream. Although they have their own rituals and customs on every marriage occasion, but unique and superb basically based on Hawaiian traditions. The wedding dress, ring, floral decorations are all based on the traditions of great Hawaii.

Hawaii weddings traditions are very beautiful and give a special attraction on your special day. On the wedding day they provide a flower garland, which is basically known as Leis in Hawaiian and they are traditionally placed around the necks of the bride and groom and they should not be taken out until the end and they should be kept very careful. Every single lei has a unique quality as they symbolize love and respect and all-around aloha. They are mainly made of the island's most beautiful tropical flowers and the garland is made up of some 40 or 50 fresh tropical flowers and bind with a colorful ribbon. These garlands are very important in wedding and take an integral part of every celebration on the island.

At Hawaii weddings, the bride and groom wear a white dress. The bride wears a long white dress and the groom wears white shirt and white slacks. The bride worn the ring of fragrant Hawaiian flowers called haku lei around her head and the groom worn a brightly colored usually red in color waistband and the green maile lei on the neck. They have some symbolical meaning on everything they have.

You can have a Hawaii weddings song on your great day which was sung by Elvis in the film Blue Hawaii and it is so perfect and so romantic. The music of this island is famous for the slack key guitar and ukulele musical instrument. Also, you can have hula dancers to interpret the songs. The bride and groom together perform a dance called money dance and the guests will make a monetary gift to them expressing their warm wishes and blessings to the couple who are going to unite.

Which of the following locations of LDS temples would be the most beautiful to hold a destination wedding?
Kona Hawaii, Laie Hawaii, Dominican Republic, Samoa, Tonga, Tahiti, Fiji

I would like to hear from people that have actually been to (or at least near) these temples or who otherwise have some knowledge of these areas.

Also, are they near beaches or resorts?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

I live in Hawaii and I can tell you that, although The Kona Temple is also very nice, The Laie Temple is truly breathtaking. It is also very far from the tourist area of Waikiki, Honolulu, and Pearl Harbor. Both Laie and Kona Temples are near beaches, but everything in Hawaii is, but they are not tourist beaches. Kona is filled with resorts, but Laie has none. There are basically only 3 things in Laie, the Temple, BYU Hawaii, and The Polynesian Cultural Center. Considering that it’s located on a small island with a million people living on it, Laie is a VERY small town.

Which beach would you recommend for a Oahu, Hawaii Wedding?
Which beach would you recommend for an Oahu, Hawaii Wedding?
    Which Beaches should we avoid?

Wedding in early June, daytime wedding (not sunset), less then 10 guests, transport for guests will be organised so no need for lots of parking. Looking for a venue with a white sandy beautiful beach & if possible somewhere that may be a little sheltered from the winds.

    Any advice appreciated!

There’s no such thing as “Sheltered from Winds” on the beaches. It depends on if you’re getting trade winds or Kona winds and you could get hammered anywhere. Expect wind and if it’s calm, you’re doing okay.

I suggest a few places for Oahu: Kailua Beach and Waimanalo Bay State Park (NOT WAIMANALO BEACH PARK!), they are the most beautiful, scenic, calm beaches you’ll find. There’s lots of space, lots of parking, and the weather is usually wonderful after 10:00 am. They have the softest, whitest sand you may ever see and the water is pure blue. They’re both easy to get to and you can drive out from town (honolulu) in about 35 minutes or stay in Kailua/Kaneohe and they’re much closer.

You can also try Magic Island and Ala Moana Beach Park for wedding pictures, but there’s not much room for an serious ceremony. Those are super picturesque and the Japanese love taking their wedding photos there.

Avoid the west side and avoid the North Shore. Stay windward or Waikiki.

    Wedding… Please help no DJ?
I am planning on having my wedding at a restaurant – which is a beautiful themed(Hawaii) wedding… they don’t have a dj nor allow one to come in. They do announce our first dance and father daughter/son mother dance… Then they play beautiful tropical music in the background. Do you have any ideas to keep my guest entertained? Games? Ideas? I appreciate it!!

    • Blunt says:

Since there is music in the background that is themed, that should be sufficient. Since there will be only the first dance and the father/mother songs, that is all the dancing there will be. Between the first dances, the meal and cake cutting, toast and any tosses that you would do, your guests will be plenty entertained.

Now, keep in mind that since there will be no entertainment per se, your reception should be kept short, 3, 3 1/2 hours tops. The only other entertainment that you could provide is a SHORT slide show of pictures, once again, it should be kept SHORT so people do not get bored and sleepy, 5 minutes tops.

      Good luck

I’ve lived here for a while now and still cant find “affordable” services. It’s worth the money though! Check out wedding packages thru a few resorts and hotels. The areas on the West side (Kaanapali, Kapalua, & Napili) are quite expensive as it is the main tourist hub. You could try South Maui, just as beautiful (I think even better overall), yet you can find better deals. When choosing a place, be sure to check them out on tripadvisor.com This will give you pics and actual ratings and reviews.
If your up for a bit of sight seeing (and a little adventure) check out Hana. The Road to Hana is famous for it’s awesome views, abundant waterfalls and the 600+ curves! Hana may offer more affordability in a very natural setting. (Don’t miss a visit to Oheo Gulch aka “The Seven Sacred Pools” while on the Eastern side.) Congrats and best wishes!!

    Wedding in Hawaii questions?
My fiancĂ© and I are looking at July 2012 wedding in Hawaii. Technically it’s not a destination wedding because I’ve been living here since last august for school, he will be moving within the next month or so. Im from Texas so all our families live in Dallas. Is it wrong to have a wedding in Hawaii even if it’s inconvenient for guests? I feel bad if grandparents can’t attend but it’s kinda hard to plan the wedding back in Dallas from Honolulu…plus Hawaii is beautiful! Also his brother is leaving for Iraq this September and wont be back till April, maybe June…my brothers national guard so it’s hard to plan for dates….do you need to wait for this? Weve been together 6.5 years. Thank you!
